8/2/22 - Layover day at Heritage Harbor, Ottawa Illionois

Riva saying hello to the ducks at the ‘Quacker Deck’ on her morning walk

Good morning from Happy Destiny

Riva chillin like a villain
On the aft dock box/table

We both slept VERY well after the long and tiring day yesterday.   Coffee, sunrise and a short bit of relaxing preceding us getting busy with boat chores.  Renee concentrated on cleaning the inside of the boat while Erik handled the outside.  Engine fluids were checked and topped off and the starboard side battery was switched out with our trolling motor battery to see if it maintains a charge.  We also removed the inner tube from the bike tire which once again had a snail pin hole in it.   The wheel and interior of the tire were inspected closely with no sign of anything that could be putting the holes in the tube….hmmm.    Guess we’ll give another new tube a try.   For a late breakfast/brunch we made omelettes.

Laundry was rounded up and provisioning list made.  The marina has a nice, newer huge passenger van available for use by transients so we loaded the laundry and headed out.   While waiting on the washers we had a delish frappe from Jeremiah Joes, the coffee shop across the street.   While the clothes were drying we made a provisioning run to Wally World.  Back at the boat we put the new tube in the bike tire even though all we could find was a 26 x 1 3/8” rather than the spec 1 1/2”…..maybe being slightly smaller it won’t puncture 😂

The afternoon sun called for a trip up to the pool.  While there, Renee received an email in regards to the Dockwa reservation she had requested yesterday at Dusable Harbor in Chicago stating that it was declined because they are booked up on the requested nights (Friday and Saturday).   This was a bummer since it is the most recommended marina that is super convenient to downtown.  So we are on the hunt now for other options.  Will have to make some calls tomorrow morning.   After dinner we rode the bikes (tire stayed inflated so far!) up to the dog park where Riva had a brief play date with a lab mix.   It was a beautiful, comfortable evening so we continued on and rode through the Heritage Harbor housing complex.  There is an interesting, varied mixture of homes here that have been developed over the past 12 years or so    Some very large, some very small (almost like tiny homes) and with a mixture of single family and multi family units.   All of these are surrounding the large man made harbor.   There is a lot of new roadways being put in currently and the construction in the neighborhood had the air echoing with the sounds of sawing and hammering all day.

Some of the larger homes behind Happy Destiny that surround the man made harbor

After bathing Riva and ourselves we lounged on the aft deck making plans for the coming days.  Oh…and we felt it necessary to support the local economy by enjoying a pint of locally made ice cream; Java Chip!  With satisfied bellies and happy, serene minds we were ready to call it a day.
