Last day to enjoy coffee on the water for a while 😢 |
Above is a link to a drone video that an acquaintance of ours and fellow Marinette owner did for us the day before our bridge incident 😝
We awoke to a cloudy and breezy but warm last morning aboard in Sandusky and sat drinking coffee for a bit before we went up to the clubhouse for a farewell breakfast with the rendezvous members. Soon after we prepared the boat for the short 13 mile trip back to Pier 53 and shoved off the dock a little after 9am. The lake conditions were pretty favorable and smoother than the ride over for the ride back with made Felicitas happy.
Rounding the point of Marblehead again Smoother, more comfortable cruise today |
We arrived back at Pier 53 at 10:30am. Dad and Felicitas departed to head home quickly while Renee and Erik stayed to get the boat ready to sit for at least a couple of weeks and pack up what we wanted to bring home. While sitting in the McDonalds drive through a few miles up the road we remembered that we forgot to turn off the water system and water heater so we returned briefly and then got on the road toward home.

Nestled in tight Ready to rest for a bit |
This trip over a 36 day period we traveled 898.5 miles and stopped in 21 towns. We anchored out only 5 nights (not as many as we’d have liked to) and stayed in marinas the remainder. We traveled under many bridges and only hit one! 🤣. We traversed portions four lakes (Michigan, Huron, Sinclair and Erie) and several rivers (Sinclair, Black and Detroit). Unlike other years where we traversed through multiples of states this years travels had us almost solely in Michigan with the exception of ending the trip in our home state of Ohio. Technically we did boat in some Canadian waters, but, some we never ported anywhere in Canada we won’t consider that we visited there….yet.
As usual it is with mixed emotions that we finish up another leg of our journeys. We are both tired and ready to be home but we will also miss traveling, meeting people, having wonderful experiences and generally being aboard! We are both excited that for the first time this year the boat will remain in a slip on the water for the remainder of the boating season, until early October, allowing us to hopefully make a few weekend trips up to enjoy the water some more. We are hoping to plan trips back up with some of our friends and children to explore the islands and and possibly a trip to Cedar Point; we’ll see what happens.
