6/22/18 - Friday - Aqua Yacht Harbor Ms to Florence Harbor Alabama

We had some downtime this morning because we were awaiting the FedEx truck to deliver the anchor we had ordered (supposed to be here between 12-2pm).   While Renee worked on some school work (number theory....ick!) I worked on finding and fixing a small leak in the air horn system that was causing the pump to come on periodically.   We fixed pancakes and bacon for breakfast and then settled into the birth for a couple hour mid morning nap 😴....ahhhh we needed that!
We then went on up to the gas docks to fill tanks (fuel) and empty tanks (waste) so that we would be ready to shove off as soon as our anchor arrived.   Unfortunately, the FedEx delivery ran late and we did not get our new anchor until about 4pm.   The weather was looking very questionable again, but we decided to shove off anyhow.   Upriver we went and within a couple of miles we were met with periodic rain.   We had a break in the rain that allowed us to slip into a cove to see ‘Yellow Creek Waterfall’.  The cove was small and very busy with folks enjoying the site and some jumping from the cliff.   We didn’t stay long (just enough for a quick dip to cool down) and then headed out to get some ground covered.  Not far upriver from there we were met with a couple of torrential downpours!  Wet....wet...wet.   I went down to drive from the lower helm with windshield wipers keeping perfect time to the rhythm on the radioooooo (oh....I digress) 🤡.   Each time we thought the storms were done we would go back up to the flybridge only to be met with more storms cropping up.  We trudged (cruised with purpose) onward though.  As crummy as the rain was, the multiple rainbows 🌈 we saw were impressive and magnicent!   I’ve never been that close to where the rainbow appeared to be ending.....stunning!   Unfortunately we did not run into a pot of gold so we’ll probably still be returning home to go back to work around 7/8 😬
We had intentions of anchoring out this evening since the rain had brought with it cooler more comfortable temps.  Plans never quite work out as we think though 😯  We could not locate a good place to anchor in this section of the River/lake so we picked up the pace a bit and decided to shoot for Florence Harbor in Florence Alabama instead.  We were told it was a good stopover with much to see.  We ended up pulling into the Marina simultaneous with yet another spectacular sunset 🌅.  We were both famished and had set out burgers to put on the grill.  However, upon arrival and walking up to the restroom at the marina office we came to find out that there was a delightful looking and scrumptious smelling restaurant onsite.  So, another change of plans 🤗.  We did a quickly clean up and change of clothes and headed back over to ‘Stanfield's River Bottom Grille’. The food and atmosphere were excellent (‘Shrimp Happens’ for Erik and smoked brisket for Renee).  With way too full of bellies we retired for the night!
Even when things don’t go as we "plan" they sure turn out wonderful!
Beautiful Marinette at Aqua Yacht Harbor

It was crazy how we could see this rainbow touch the water!

Storms moving in on us!

There is the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!!!! (or maybe tricky leprechaun???)

The brightest rainbow of the day, even a double one!
