Sunrise at Alton Harbor dock

The perfectly calm waters of the protected marina slip made for a good and
realatively long nights sleep. After all our usual morning routines
(yep...mainly a lot of coffee) time was spent on a combination of Renee
finishing up a few edits and sumbitting her FINAL draft of her thesis and also
cleaning the boat. At around 10:30am our friends, Phil and Susan, pulled into the
marina aboard their 32 Marinette Sedan,'Callin In Gone'. They started their loop
in Nashville in 2019 intending to complete it pretty much in one year. Life,
mainly covid, had other plans. They ended up spending 8+ months in Jacksonville
Fla at Ortega Landing Marina where we were fortunate to be able to meet up with
Susan last year. They are currently heading down the rivers and are within a
couple hundred miles of completing their loop. It was nice to re connect and catch
up. A little relaxing at the pool and hot tub was followed by dinner at Gentelin
which was reccomended to us by buy a guy at the AA meeting yesterday. The
reccomendation proved to be a good one as we enjoyed the fine food as well as
the company of Phil and Susan.

On the walk back to the boat after dinner the four of us stopped and sat aboard
'Field Trip' and shared more stories of favorite stops and experiences. While
Renee chilled with Riva back on our boat Erik went on a bike ride mission to
find cigarettes that weren't $11 a pack! He was successful, but not without a
little drama. He rode himself into a majorly rough hood where folks were all out in
the street loitering when an unmarked police SUV pulled up right beside him and
the officer came bounding out of the vehicle and chased after some guy while the other
neighborhood folks were all hoopin and hollering. Erik did a quick turnaround
and made a beeline exit from the area. He then shifted plans and instead rode
across the half mile long bridge over to Missouri where he picked up smokes for
the reaonable half price of the Illinois tobacco. Sweaty and tired, back at the
marina we let Riva walk and do her business before taking a half hour or so to
cool down and retire for the night.

We will have family aboard in a few days We had yet to make the dinette into a bed and had to do a modification to the backrest cushion to make it work properly and easily. Of course Erik had to test it for safety |
