Woke up to this strange orange ball in the sky!!!! Finally the sun made an appearance 🌞
Yes, that is the sun rising ❤️ |
Erik headed off early to make a grocery, bank, and cancer stick run. Renee stayed back and drank coffee, showered, and watched the sun rise 😊. When Erik returned he made omelettes, turkey bacon, and toast. Delicious!!! After breakfast we headed off on the bikes to see the rest of the mushroom houses.
We visited the remainder of the mushroom houses except a couple that are right along the channel coming into the city that we will see up close as we depart |
Rode along the lake and saw mushroom houses and other beautiful homes with spectacular lake views. Stopped and wandered the beach a bit to look for Petoskey stones. We found some really pretty rocks, not sure if any of them are Petoskey stones, but they sure are pretty 🤩. Next we stopped at the Charlevoix Historical Society Museumat Harsha House and learned all about the founding of Charlevoix, more about Earl Young, and his wife Irene Harsha Young and her art.
Charlevoix has a really nice FREE bike share program with these bikes and trikes located throughout the city |
Upon returning to the boat we decided to sit on the bow and enjoy the warm sunshine ☀️. Not a cloud in the sky. After a little relaxing we got into some boat cleaning. Erik washed the front and port side (The side he could reach from the dock) while Renee cleaned seat and window covers, cleaned windows, and did a little vacuuming in the boat.
Renee’s newly learned skills keeps Happy Destiny looking sharp at the dock! |
We took a lunch break and had salmon pate, cheese, smoked trout, and crackers (Renee skipped the trout).

Next we loaded Riva on the bike and headed to Ferry Beach. We saw many more beautiful homes along the way. Stopped into Irish Boat Shop as we had seen another looper boat on Nebo docked there. We found the boat, Bucket List, but no one was around. Ferry beach is on Lake Charlevoix, not Lake Michigan, which is an adjacent, large, beautiful lake that also has crystal clear water….only a bit warmer than Lake Michigan. At the beach Riva enamored a family of young children who kept each other entertained playing fetch in the lake until Riva took in a gulp of water and got a bit choked up. On the ride back a stop at Murdick’s Fudge and Ice Cream where Renee and Erik shared a single scoop of Mocha Almond Fudge while Riva enjoyed her complimentary Pup Cup of soft serve.
Back aboard and after an hour or so of chillaxing the grill was fired up to prepare a delicious dinner of lemon pepper and honey glazed chicken with sides of Mac&cheese and Glory brand southern green beans (thanks for the turn on to the gem of those green beans Kurt and Jenn!). The sunny and gorgeous day produced great anticipation that we may get the opportunity to witness a nice sunset so after dinner we strolled along the river inlet out to the lighthouse to find a prime viewing spot. The pier was bustling with onlookers who also had their hopes up. The good Lord provided well by giving us all a spectacular show….God is good! We stood and chatted for a while with a group of a dozen or so friendly from Grand Rapids who were in town to partake in tomorrow mornings 17th annual marathon. We used each other to snap pictures of each other. They invited us to join in and run the marathon but we explained that a firm morning date with sausage biscuits and gravy at a local establishment (Smoke On The Water) would unfortunately not allow us to make the run 😜.

Another day of sunshine and NO whiskey 😎 |
By the time we made the walk back to the boat it was after 10pm and we were all exhausted from the days activities. looper midnight had well passed and it was time to lay our heads on pillows. Charlevoix has been an enjoyable stop; we are sure again that if the opportunity arises this would be a town to make a return trip to.
