Sign in one of the model train exhibits drew interest Research says it has to do with how they sort train cars….boring! 😜 |
The morning started with Renee sleeping in till almost 7, then leisurely drinking coffee and eating breakfast on the aft deck.

This is what 1.3 mil gets ya
We watched three of the boats docked with us leave a little before 8 to head the opposite direction toward Tonawanda. We stayed with plans to visit the Train Museum at 10 when they opened.

The huge model train display was really cool 😎 It stretched for over 100 yards!

Many things to see! |
After the train museum we pulled off of the dock to continue eastbound on the Erie Canal. The sights are mostly rural with some apple orchards, farmland(some just being plowed), and the occasional old house. We went under several lift bridges but no locks today. There was one spot where a road actually went under the canal. One lock master scolded Erik for making a wake…oops. We took turns driving while each got a little nap down below out of the hot sun.

A very old house along the canal |

We passed by Albion, not stopping as we were told there is not much to see there! |

Some kind of correctional facility 😮 But For The Grace of God! |
We made it to Spencerport about 4pm. We had thought about trying to make it to Fairport today so we could get to the farmers market Saturday 8-12. However without the shade of the upper Bimini driving in the sun all day can get pretty toasty 🌞. Not sure if we could make the lock before they closed at 6 also. Tied up in Spencerport we have free electric so we cranked the AC for a while. We had not decided for sure if we would stay the night and leave early to make the lock right when they open, or maybe cruise a little closer yet this evening. We are still hoping to get to Fairport in time to catch the farmers market.

We cooked a yummy dinner of center cut chops seasoned with creole and a little BBQ sauce and finished with a layer of everything bagel seasoning accompanied by riced cauliflower. The remainder of the evening was spent relaxing on the aft deck enjoying a pleasant sunset and chatting with Terry, a fellow looper who is heading west toward their home port in East Tawas Michigan. Terry and his wife have been segment looping for the past 3 years. They stored their boat ‘Wonderous’ in a couple of the exact same boat yards as us over the years (Kingfisher in Demopolis AL and Green Cove Springs in Jacksonville Fla….small world!). Jeff shared a story of the strange things they’d seen over the past couple of days. One of the strangest was that they saw a real, live camel in a backyard along the canal! Crazy….we now know that in fact there IS humping along the canal 🐫😂
