6/10/25 Delaware City to Chesapeake City

A lazy morning for Renee and Riva, even Erik slept in till 5am!  We didn’t have far to go today and if we left about noon Renee figured that we would be riding the tide and have the current moving with us on the C&D Canal.  This meant an easy morning of coffee, planning, research, and breakfast.  Erik made pancakes and sausage, yum! We walked into the small convenience store to see if they had some items on the grocery list.  We got a loaf of bread and tea then headed back to the boat stopping briefly to chat with the boat that pulled in where one had left early this morning.  He had an aluminum dinghy!  That would go nicely with our all aluminum boat…dinghy envy! lol.  After a few boat chores and we got ready to head out and departed right about noon.  We did realize shortly after pulling off the dock that we’d forgotten to fill our freshwater tanks which was a bummer since we could be anchored out the next couple of days.  Quick showers and paper plates it may be for us!

There is a bike path that follows along the 14 mile stretch of the C&D Canal

Our trip today was to pull out of the canal, go a couple miles, and then turn into the C&D Canal for a total of about 17  miles.  Our destination, Chesapeake City has a free town dock.  You only have to pay if you want to use the power or water (still really cheap!).  They also have a small anchorage with a free dinghy dock to access town.  We decided to stay a night at anchor, then if we can get into the dock stay a night there (easier to get the bikes off for more exploring).  There was only one sailboat in the anchorage when we came in.  Over the course of the afternoon several more boats joined us.  Renee laid out and finally got some sun and Erik took a nap.  Erik made an early dinner of scallops and steak with baked potatoes.
Our Nebo track from today
When we depart Chesapeake City we will do the last mile or so of the canal west before heading south on the Upper Chesapeake Bay

Surf & Turf

After dinner we took the dinghy into town and checked out the Chesapeake Inn, walked a few blocks, and checked out the historic buildings from early 1800’s.  Then back to the boat for more blogging and relaxing while witnessing a beautiful sunset, and watching more boats come in around us to anchor (7 total now in the anchorage).  Another amazing day on the loop 🥰

Some of the many well kept old canal homes
Most had placards talking about the history of the home and its occupants

While taking pics of ourselves in the giant Adirondack chair a guy took our picture in it together
He slyly slipped in a selfie of himself 😂
Later in the evening he came motoring by our anchorage on his pontoon and chatted for a few minutes; nice guy!

We had a swim by from this guy
Wasn’t sure if it was a muskrat or what until it emerged on the bank
To reveal itself as a big fat beaver

Peaceful evening sunset

And the finale
The rising of the strawberry moon
