6/7/25 Atlantic City to ….Atlantic City?!?!

So we sat and relaxed

The morning started off very foggy. We couldn’t even see the shore only about 100 yds away! Slow morning began with weather and wave research, coffee, and napping lol.  Erik started the generator, to charge batteries, cook breakfast, and heat up water for dishes and showers.  Amazing omelettes and bacon to start the day, followed by Erik and Riva heading out on the dinghy to do her business.  They found a dog park at Harrahs Casino where Riva met a friend; Riva liked him more than he did her.

And why not a little nap

Life is for the dogs!

Renee got a shower, then called Foster, local harbor host for some advice on heading out toward Cape May. Outside or inside? Rising or ebbing tide? East or west winds? You get the idea 🤪. Foster confirmed our thoughts, the was a small craft advisory that stated 3-5 foot waves with a very short period(time between waves, short is bad).

While 40’ is not too small, we head the warnings of a small craft advisory

The inside route, though it can be shallow, looked like our best bet.  Very shortly after the tide began rising, around noon, we headed down the New Jersey Intercostal waterway(NJICW).  We had not gotten very far when we approached the first of several bridges that would need opening.  The bridge operator asked how far we were going, then suggested we call the next bridge. He thought it might be down( not working).  A quick phone call confirmed that the bridge was not operating and no estimate on when it might be working🤨.  Only 9’ of clearance and no desire to rip the enclosure off again…that might even take the top of the boat 😳 we had no choice but to turn around.

On our short cruise we saw a bunch of people on their paddle boards who were all part of a fundraiser
‘Paddle For A Cause’
For a local cancer foundation 🥰

Our big 11 mile trip today
But our new anchorage is much better!

Back to Atlantic City.  Erik was determined to get to Cape May, and neither one of us was crazy about this stop. Especially the anchorage that rocked and rolled us with passing boat traffic.  Renee made the call, “no go”! We decided to switch to a more secluded anchorage where it was much smoother and quieter.  It was in a residential area with what appeared to be a lot of huge vacation rental homes; not the best scenery but worth it for the calm water.  Additionally, there was an easy spot to get Riva to shore…never mind the no trespassing signs that we didn’t notice until we had already made landfall on the dinghy.  Nearby on land was a small shopping center where we stopped in to a dollar tree and a grocery for a couple of items.  Rather than mounting the trolling motor to Trudge we chose the healthier rowing propulsion.

The rainy day gave way to sunshine and a nice breeze at about 4pm and we spent the remainder of the day and evening aboard lounging on the aft deck, eating dinner, and catching up on the blog.  Although not what we had planned, it was a nice and mostly relaxing day.

Chill anchorage in Brigantine Beach

Good night!
