6/5/25 Layover at Great Kills

Nothing says we’re ready for another blessed day like a beautiful sunrise

Erik was up early as usual and started the day with boat projects! He had to get the batteries out (not an easy job) to adjust the stuffing box to decrease the amount of water coming in, they are supposed to drip a little to keep the shaft cooled. Renee looked at weather and route planning.  Erik cooked eggs and bacon for breakfast, yum! We talked to several other loopers, docked beside us, stopping in to fill water tanks, or just passing by in their dinghy. Mick, of the “real” Phantom, stopped and visited and gave us lots of information on the New Jersey Intercostal and was a great source for route planning.

We hopped on the bikes and headed for the “famous”, or at least highly recommended, Frank and Sals Italian Deli.  So many delicious things to choose from 🤤. We headed back to the boat with a big loaf of Italian bread, a large Italian hero sandwich, and a huge piece of lasagna. Back at the boat we split the sandwich and Renee’s first bite into the hard, but delicious crust broke a crown 😖.  Luckily a few phone calls got an appointment close by. Needless to say the sub was delish even though it had to be cut into small pieces to eat 🤪.   We had commented just after leaving the deli how much more economical lunch was today than it was yesterday in Manhattan….lol….maybe not after adding in the $120 dentist bill!

After the tooth was fixed, we hopped on the bikes and headed for the beach.  Riva loves the beach but she was not too keen on waves knocking her over or salt water.  Back at the boat Riva got a bath, then we had lasagna for dinner (Erik even cut the crust off the Italian bread so no more dental emergencies!).  Showers and relaxing on the boat finished off another amazing day!
